Investment Smackdown

Wednesday, Nov. 15 ~ 8:30 – 11:15 a.m.

High school students interested in economics and finance are invited to take part in a friendly competition to develop and present championship investment advice focusing on two powerslam topics:

  • Managing Investment Risks
  • Putting Endowment Funds to Work

Guidelines

  • A school may enter multiple teams.
  • Teams must have a minimum of four members and no more than six.
  • Presentations are 20 minutes followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer session.
  • Judges will include industry professionals and TU finance faculty.

Prizes

  • Winning team receives the Smackdown Belt to proudly display at their school.
  • Winning high school team (or second place high school team if a high school teams wins the Smackdown Belt)  gets to take the high school belt to their school.
  • Winning college team (or second place college team if a college teams wins the Smackdown Belt) gets to take the college belt to their school.
  • Modest prize money:
    • $1,000 for Smackdown winning team
    • $500 for High School winning team (or second place high school team if a high school teams wins the Smackdown Belt)
    • $250 for College winning team (or second place college team if a college teams wins the Smackdown Belt)
    • All high school participants receive a $500 scholarship if they matriculate at TU

Teams will also get a TU campus tour; meet with finance students, faculty, and administrators; and enjoy a networking lunch.

TU offers valuable resources to help you train before you set foot in the ring:

  • The Risk Management Lab, including training on how to use all the tools
  • Student Investment Fund students and faculty advisor to address – virtually or in person – risk management and investment ideas
  • Expert advice from TU’s Student Investment Fund board
